Know Nothing #1

On this day in 1855 the U.S. Congress voted to appropriate $200,000 for continuance of the work on the Washington Monument. The next morning the resolution was tabled and it would be 21 years before Congress would vote on funds again. Work was continued by the Know-Nothing Party in charge of the project… I guess that was a Metaphysics stage for Congress…

This is my Know-Nothing blog strand… Or, in other terms, the “non-lyrical” portion of my blog.

I don’t like to ramble too much alone here at the keyboard, so unless you call me up or meet me in person, here’s what you get:

Stochastic Dialogue #1 entitled: Commitment

A: So, are you coming on Thursday?

B: Yes. Assuming I can.

A: Assuming? … Why would you assume you wouldn’t?

B: Well, Im not assuming I wouldn’t… only that I possibly couldn’t. That’s all.

A: Well, assuming that you commit, you wouldn’t have to assume otherwise.

B: Yes. However, that would leave you assuming I’d come and me neglecting the assumption of happenchance for little finance or other opportunity.

A: Well, commitment is essential. It gives me the assurance that even if a better opportunity for you arrives, you would casually deny it considering you’ve already committed to MY cause.

B: Well, obviously therein lies the problem: COMMITMENT. … Not that I’m non-devotional but I don’t want to be misleading in any way…

A: mmhmm…

B: But, more than likely, I’ll Fucking go!

A: Good…

B: …

A: I understand your need to keep your options open… A fun party, cooler friends, prettier girls, etc. However, commitment exercises discipline and responsibility – both commendable attributes.

B: Ohhh… Well, in that case there’s a small chance I’ll go. … assuming I can.
